This kimono is made from Bogolan, a traditional fabric from Mali with roots in ancient customs. The cotton fabric is first handwoven into narrow strips, which are then carefully sewn together to form a larger piece. The fabric is dyed with mud pigments from the earth, combined with plant-based dyes. Once the fabric is dyed, it must dry completely before the graphic patterns are applied. These symbols are commonly seen in many prints and are extremely popular, but this is the original design, applied by hand, typical of Bogolan
This piece can be worn as a vest in winter, a coat in autumn and spring, and a perfect robe for cool summer evenings. The fabric, a rugged linen-cotton blend, is surprisingly soft and comfortable to wear. A beautiful item that reflects the rich culture of Mali.
100% Natural cotton
100% Naturally dyed
Because the fabric is naturally dyed, it is important to preserve the richness of the colors. Air out to clean; dry cleaning is preferable if needed
